We'll work on pronunciation, listening and confidence along the way, but the goal is simple: to help you feel comfortable using English with real people, in real life.

Hi, I'm Darren.
I've been teaching English for around 20 years, and there's one thing I've learned: knowing English and actually feeling comfortable speaking it are two very different things.
That's why I like lessons to feel like real conversations. We might talk about something happening in the world, something you've been thinking about, work, travel, university — or simply whatever makes for an interesting conversation that day. Along the way, we'll work naturally on your English.
I've taught people of different ages and backgrounds from around the world, including many students in South Korea. Some need English for university or work. Others want to handle interviews and presentations better. And plenty simply want to stop thinking so much before they speak.
I don't want you to spend an hour feeling as though you're being tested. I want you to finish thinking, “I actually spoke English for an hour.”
That's the kind of lesson I enjoy teaching — and the kind I think people enjoy coming back to.

How do I get started?
Just get in touch and tell me a little about yourself, your English level and what you'd like to improve. We can talk about what you're looking for and whether my lessons are right for you.
When can I have lessons?
Lessons are arranged individually, so we'll find a regular time that works for both of us. I teach students in different countries and time zones, so we'll discuss availability when you get in touch.
Are the lessons suitable for beginners?
Yes. I teach different levels, from beginners to advanced speakers. The conversation, vocabulary and pace of the lesson will be adapted to your level, so you won't be expected to understand or say things you're not ready for.
What technology do I need?
Lessons take place online using Microsoft Teams. You'll need an internet connection and a computer, tablet or other suitable device with a microphone and camera. I'll send you the details you need before your lesson.
